I still remember when I decided to start my own blog, and to write about everything that happened to me which I didn’t like, but ultimately ended up writing inspiring positive thinking articles.
Blogging gave me a direction to put my thoughts into action. I was able to find a guide, a perfect roadmap that helped me to gravitate towards better choices. But I also had to deal with [I still face] lots of myths about the blogging career that people blindly believe. This is the reason a blogger/independent writer finds it so hard to explain- what blogging is, and how the blogging world works!
So let me go ahead and unravel all the common blogging myths I’ve come across everyday during blogging, which you need to stop believing!
Myth 1: Blogging Is Only a Pastime.
If this is the reason you have never started your blog, then let me tell you that blogging is one of the most creative and interesting profession or career choice made by many these days!
Blogging has become a great platform to monetize your skills. Gone are the days when blogging was just considered as an online journal. So think again, “why you want to start your blog in the first place?” Have your goals in place, a clear vision, a purpose in hand and then go for it.
Blogging is not just a pastime, but it is an extension to your creative abilities. Whatever you write and share on your blog, always have a meaning and a purpose to it. So, don’t shy away and start your blog right today!
Myth 2: Blogging Doesn’t Take Much Time.
If someone told you that blogging is easy and doesn’t ask for your time, then you’ve the wrong information.
Blogging is not something that you create instantly. It requires your entire day and late night hours. Blogging requires a great deal of time. In order to create a good blog post, you must agree to work consistently and wholeheartedly.
Blogging is hard. It is not just writing new interesting topics every week seems hard, but also promoting all that content! It is extremely hard to do everything all alone. You know what I mean? Like, brainstorming, niching, researching, and then creating great content that’s SEO worthy.
Every success comes with a story that’s about ideas, hard work, determination, and belief. Blogging also requires a lot of effort and hard work. Nothing is every achieved in a jiffy; so work hard, stay focused, and do it anyways, because it is important to you.
Myth 3: Blogging Doesn’t Require To Invest A Lot Of Work Into Your Blog.
This is one of the very common myth that I’ve struggled a lot with during my blogging journey. Everybody thinks that you don’t have to do much in blogging. Just simply write a post, and hit publish, then update on your social media, and that’s it!
No! A big no! Do not believe the sentence that says, “there’s not much to learn about blogging.”
Blogging can make you very smart and independent. You get to learn so much all about the industry you write about, web development, the technical knowledge, marketing nitty gritty, about networking, about monitoring, about sales, about content creation, about self-promotion, and a lot more.
Blogging does ask you to do all the work by yourself. If you’re willing to put in lots of efforts to make your blog stand out, then you’ll definitely enjoy doing everything. But remember, there’s lot of work that still needs to be done.
Myth 4: When You Post Your Content, Readers Come Automatically To Your Blog.
Unfortunately this is not that simple at it sounds. Unlike other jobs, in blogging you must do a lot of self-promotion to make people learn about what you’ve to offer. Your ideas, experiences, and thoughts get noticed when readers start coming back to your blog again and again, to read your amazing posts.
Therefore, if you truly want to reach your audience, and make your content stand out, then you must plan ahead for creating a great strategy to share and market your content.
Myth 5: Blogging Is Only About Writing.
Blogging is a scientific approach that operates best on keywords. Therefore to make it more specific and accurate for your targeted audience, you must have a clear idea of what your audience or readers like, and the topics that can attract more footfalls.
More than simply writing, blogging is more about understanding the market you are going to cater to. You must have the desire and the passion for creating interesting and engaging content.
Remember, that if you have the passion and the burning desire to give your readers and viewers what they want, you will do your best and thrive in the blogging world.
Why I felt the need to debunk these common myths is because, I wanted to share these facts with the world. The real hard work that goes behind-the-scenes often gets overshadowed by these unnecessary myths, that people start believing.
To be a successful blogger, and to start earning from this career, you must dedicate your infinite number of hours of your life. Some get lucky to walk past these blogging myths and evolve as a successful blogger that pays them well.
But, still I would encourage you to start your own blog today, or to write that very first post, you have been waiting for, because blogging is a great platform and an amazing opportunity to share your “voice” with everyone else.
If you have the passion and the desire to make a difference, and show the possibilities to others, then blogging will have your back. Trust me! Even if that means, long stretched working hours, and sleeping less, or doing more than others!
If you find blogging is fun, and exciting, and interesting, because you enjoy the “flow” where you lose track of the world and time, then it’s your passion you’re working for, that might be your “job” too, and you feel wonderful to put in more hours than the average person. So who cares for those existing common blogging myths?
