No matter how beauty is defined by different sources, media, or by people; #truebeauty exist within us! It is inside all of us- the inner beauty. Our greatest treasures that define beauty in a raw way is already within us, and is waiting to be uncovered, and to be seen, and to be fully accepted transparently.
There’s a beauty in being different. And there’s a large chunk of your heart that feels this difference as a pure joy.
Just few days back I remember; while standing in front of the mirror to apply my kohl eyeliner, I tried looking closely at my face and rather than smiling gleefully, I felt a jolt of sadness that made my heart sank!
I had just realized that my skin was sagging and I could see that my face was losing its spark! But I quickly gathered myself back and looked closely again; this time with a big smile on my face, and things looked little different to me [in a nice way!]. I had forgotten that no matter how old I’m, I am not going to lose my heart warming smile- to flaunt forever!
I had just discovered the ‘beauty’ within me.
And I felt better.
As author Brené Brown says, “let go of who you think you’re supposed to be and embrace who you are.”
Our body, our skin, our energy levels, and our bones are going through big changes every single day. No matter how hard we try to hide behind those patches of make up and different types of body cream; time will unveil our raw beauty either today or tomorrow. And the deep intense love for own own self, in our own skin can only be celebrated when we accept the ‘true beauty’ that’s within us.
Today, I was listening to the TED talks by famous runway model Chantelle Winnie. She was talking about her journey from bullied schoolgirl to runway queen. How she triumphed over her skin condition vitiligo and ‘wrote’ her own success story; is an inspiration to so many women who thinks true beauty can only be celebrated and appreciated when it looks as glossy and attractive as any front cover magazine models or actresses!
I never believed, “I’m beautiful!” Even today I’m often struck by this feeling of unbeautifying myself through self-talk; especially on the days when I’m sleep deprived, stressed, and exhausted to the max; and my thyroid to be blamed that makes me look fat and chubby 🙁 I’d always assumed that I would naturally grow out of feeling down about my looks, but it took me longer to recognize the true essence of my inner beauty that reflects outward through my face!
Believe in the beauty that radiates from within.
The narrow perception of beauty must take backstage now! And we must rise up to the conscience of accepting beauty in a more broad way. The definition shouldn’t be limited to the external appearance of a woman, rather the heroic transcendence of breaking all illusions of the prior definitions of beauty until today.
Being obsessed and fixating on how you look is limiting your belief and is preventing you from accepting everything that is beautiful about you! Practice to witness beauty in infinite forms, and encourage yourself to practice self-care and to be more accepting.
Focus on improving your inward beauty by being kind, being graceful, by being spiritually beautiful, and by being your most authentic self in every situation! There’s beauty, there’s grace in being your authentic self that reflects the true “beauty” of courage and leadership. Lead the world to help them see their BEST SELF in the mirror.
I’ve discovered my true beauty. Have you? Leave me your thoughts below, and help me with some suggestions on, how can we help each other in recognizing our beautiful-self?
Great post. I think you’ve shared something that we experience at different times of our lives. As a woman over 50, I’m keenly aware that I will unlikely meet societal standards of beauty again, which I took for granted in my youth. However, I appreciate the beauty of how I am able to make others feel and how I’m capable of brightening another person’s day.
