“They say when things change inside you, things change around you.” Would you agree?
Change has always been very uncomfortable for me, but it has also been the ultimate experience I’ve ever lived! Through this experience, I’ve learned a very important lesson that gave me the courage to ’embrace change and that is, “Progress is impossible without change.” ~Walt Disney
Don’t fear change, get excited about it, because progress isn’t possible without change; without shifting to the unknown.
As many of you already know that recently I got a job in the IT industry, and that’s why I had to shelve all my creative tasks for the moment. Yes, I miss writing, creating videos, stories, artworks, podcasts, and contributing articles; but I am also loving my new role- that is helping me to learn and grow, as well as also assisting me financially.
Changes have always been so messy and downright scary for me, but not anymore! With this new shift in my career (that I was missing all these years), I was able to gauge my courage, my approach, my purpose, my dedication, and willingness from a complete new level. I’m super happy that I was able to pick up from where I had left off my career. This was so important for me. Change happened, because I constantly kept asking the universe to send it my way, and it worked.
Never stop believing in the power of universe. Keep wishing for the things that you want the most. Keep asking, and once you get it, stop resisting change. Just go for it, and work towards that change. Things will get easier when you “accept the change” and work towards it, rather than aganist it. Instead of fearing change, get excited about the progress.
I’m happy to say that, “I made a change for good!”
This change is taking me to new heights of success and recognition, and I’m loving it. Now you may ask, ” what helped me to start feeling comfortable with any “new” changes that takes place in my life?” And my answer is, “awareness.” By being aware of the shifts/trends within me and around me, I turned towards being more mindful of the conscious choices I had to make, or was forced to make because of the situation.
When I am mindful of the choices I’m making, I adjust to the discomfort that comes naturally with a new change. No matter where I’m in my life, I don’t fear change anymore! I remind myself to feel excited about the new opportunities that’s coming my way.
As long as we are moving forward in life to make better choices for our growth and development, we are honoring the changes. It doesn’t matter if you are moving too fast, too slow, or in a moderate speed. Just keep moving!
All change equates to new opportunities, new learning, which means progress. Progress is the key element in living a life full of intent and purpose. We need to have a purpose to drive us to do what we are doing, or intent to do next! Purpose is that motivating force that helps us to keep moving.
Any change requires movement. It demands your time, attention, foucs, and hard work; and pushes us forward- to grow and to become.
When I look back to see all the progess I have made, it fills me with joy, and makes me feel proud of myself. Everytime I pause to check the progress I’ve made until today, I grin to myself and turn back around feeling proud and confident.
Here is a list of things you should do, if you want to make progress a priority.
1. Step Out of Your Comfort Zone
When you move further away from where you’re at present, you will learn more about yourself deeply. Stepping out of your comfort zone may feel scary, but that’s the only way to reach for the things you’ve always wanted to do or to be! Remember that this transitional phase is just temporary. What starts as a daunting process, will soon become your new normal. You’ll start feeling comfortable when you start accepting this process as temporary.
The uncomfortable and sad feeling will soon settle down turning those fears into opportunity. Just remmeber to take it easy. Keep reminding yourself that, “I am going to take away the power behind those fears, and will embrace change that’s in front of you.
2. Only Focus on Things That You Can Control
When we are struggling with something new, it is very likely to have anxiety and fear. While you find yourself on an emotional rollercoaster ride, it is important to breathe and remember that, you don’t need to focus on things that feels out of control. Focus on what’s doable and that you can control!
For example, when I accepted this new career, I couldn’t control my emotions, from feeling sad and very angry. I was happy in my bubble of “creating new things” everyday, and this new shift in my career felt like a new big responsibility, that I wasn’t ready to accept.
But, this was also true that I was waiting eagerly to start my career again through a good corporate job. So I decided to shelve all my creative tasks for sometime and to only focus on doing best at my new job.
Therefore, I bought myself some planners, started reading corporate work-related books, gave all my 100 percent focus on learning new things from my team and manager, took initiatves to create new process documents and trained my team members. I started feeling great again! All my worries and fears started wearing off.
By taking control of how you want to feel when a change happens, you will create more positive feelings to change your focus around to things that looks like an opportunity and new beginning, and not a burden.
3. Do Not Fear Change, Get Excited About It
It is true that change feels like a burden when it is forced upon us. So we try to fight it because we feel we have no control over it. We all fear change. Don’t we? We fear the unknown, and the unknown generally feels scary. We fear moving out of our safe comfort zone, and trying something new. But think it as a progress, and not change.
Progress helps us to keep moving forward. When there is progress there is a purpose. And this purpose renews my intention towards my own development. I don’t want to remain still in career or in life, I want to be in the flow. And when there is flow, life becomes interesting and exciting. Progress is a blessing, and so does any change!
4. Awareness is The Key
“Awareness is all about restoring your freedom to choose what you want instead of what your past imposes on you.” ~Deepak Chopra
In order to be fully aware of what you want from your life, practice self-reflection. Take a step back and ask yourself what are you missing in your life? What is that something you badly want? Are you happy being where you are at present? What’s stopping you from going where you want to go, or from doing what you want to do? Probing into these questions helped me understand what I was missing in my life, and why I need to go for a change?
Most of the time we get stuck in negative patterns of life, which as a result leave us unhappy and clueless about what we want to do, why we want to do it, and what’s the next step towards personal development, etc,. Through self-reflection, I tend to be more aware of my unhealthy habits and patterns that reappear in my life. This also helps me to stop overthinking and go for the change, or I should say new beginning.
To grow and succeed you must push away your limitations and face your fears. With self-awareness by your side, you not only recognize what your are doing and why, but you consiciously make choices that helps you move up the career ladder.
“Conscious choices may not be always favorable to your expectations, but they help in increasing your agility. It eases the fear of unknown, and helps you feel prepared to tackle any situation. Any transformation brings a new light, a new perspective to your existence. In fact it is an essential element for us to keep moving. Awareness about yourself and your situation will empower you to make consicous choices and to accept any changes.” ~Epsita- The Positive Window
